DiSabatino Wins Excellance in Construction Merit Award

Date: 11/26/2003

DiSabatino Construction is the Merit Winner of the 2003 Excellance in Construction Award for the Astra Zeneca Centralized Cafeteria.
There was a tie for the merit award in the General Contractor/Construction Manager over $5 million category. DiSabatino Construction was honored for its work on the Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals Centralized Cafeteria project near Newark.
The cafeteria was designed and built to be a focal point for visitors and employees, and was designed to create an aesthetically pleasing and inviting environment for the same, which is a different and creative approach for a typical manufacturing site. Even though it is referred to as a cafeteria, the facility doubles as a meeting and conference center.
Two conference rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art video conferencing equipment. All meeting rooms are designed to be functional while creating a relaxed and productive work environment.
Two weeks prior to the cafeteria start date, the project necessitated the relocation of gas and water utilities in addition to the sprinkler systems, without interrupting the remainder of the site. The move was successful and the cafeteria project started on time.
The target completion date was extremely sensitive and important as an event was scheduled for opening day with executives locally and abroad. Therefore scheduling and keeping on schedule was first priority. DiSabatino faced many challenges staying on schedule including extreme winter and design changes. The winter turned into one of the worst in years, dropping snow and freezing temperatures that set the schedule back as well as extensive design changes by the owners. Despite all this, the project was completed on time.
Congratulations to all who worked on this project and contributed to us receiving this award. It is truly an honor to win this two years in a row.
